Hosta are among the most popular of perennials for shady areas due to their versatility, with hundreds of varieties now available. They form sturdy mounds of foliage, topped with lily-like blooms. This medium selection has leaves with blue centres and wide creamy-white margins in spring that in summer, brighten to white while the leaves deepen to blue-green. A greenish blush may appear over the margins in the heat of late summer. The variegation as shown in the image may take a couple of years to develop. Lavender flowers appear in midsummer and may attract hummingbirds. Excellent in containers and when used for edging. Hosta go completely dormant in the fall, and the dying foliage can be easily removed any time before mid-spring. Thick leaves provide good slug resistance. Clumps may be easily divided in the spring or fall, but the plants may be left alone for years. Sport of the ever-popular H. ‘Halcyon’. USPP#19623: unlicensed propagation prohibited.
