On July 5th & 6th, artists will gather at Beyond the House (144 Craig Street, Russell, ON) to showcase their work and promote art in our community. This art exhibition and sale will showcase various forms of visual media, sculpture, stained glass, stone, pottery, metalwork and more.
This event has two main goals – bringing local artists together and raising funds to provide bursaries for two graduating students that are continuing their education in the Arts.
As part of the festivities, we will be holding a BBQ on both Saturday & Sunday between 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, with all proceeds going towards the bursaries for graduates at the two Russell high schools.

Kimberley Kargus - Glassworks for Good has graciously donated a stunning mosaic lantern for a special raffle at the Bloom and Art Festival. All proceeds will support two bursaries for graduating students from Russell’s two local high schools, who will be pursuing further education in the Arts.

Paul has been painting in oil for the last 30 years and has taught oil painting in Russell for the past several years. Focusing primarily on landscapes and florals, Paul has exhibited in Ottawa (Cube Gallery) and Toronto (Canvas Gallery). Ellie is a letter carver and figurative sculptor who began her art adventure in Cambridge, UK in 2011. Letter carving combines Ellie’s love of words and calligraphy and uses traditional letter carving techniques in combination with a mallet and chisel to cut the letters into slate, marble or limestone. In addition to letter carving, Ellie aspires to evoke a sense of romanticism through her stone sculptures and low reliefs.

Leslie draws inspiration from the natural beauty of the west coast of British Columbia, where she was born and raised. It was her father, John Moutray, a professional artist, who ignited her passion for art as she watched him paint in his studio. Currently retired and settled in Russell, Leslie devoted over three decades to teaching French Immersion Visual Arts and more in varied educational environments across Canada. Her commissioned paintings and fine art reproductions adorn private collections across Canada, the United States and Europe.

Stephanie is a Master Pastelist turned Photographer. She still enjoys picking up the buttery stick of a pastel, but now enjoys picking up a different tool: a camera. Through her paintings, Stephanie has learned to appreciate light, detail and texture and how they interact with each other. Stephanie resides in Russell and is well-known in the community.

Christina Stapper, a local potter from Russell, Ontario began her journey with clay in 2020.Since then, she has put in countless hours playing, experimenting, learning from other potters, self exploration with the wheel, hand-building and glazing. Christina quickly became a full-time potter and
has a shop at her home (CMS Pottery). She offers workshops and experiences, and sells her pieces at markets, galleries and pop up shops.

Carly Miner is the talented artist behind Hidden Daisy. A classically trained artist, Carly holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Art, a Master’s Degree in Commercial Art and is a member of the Ottawa Art Association. Carly is defined by her desire to capture beauty through her art. The daisy flower holds sentimental significance to Carly and if you look closely, you’ll find a hidden daisy somewhere in each of her paintings waiting to be discovered.

Working in stoneware clay, Karen Kurtzrock makes pottery for the home and garden. Some pieces are made on the pottery wheel while others are made from slabs of clay or a combination of the two. Karen is interested in creating art that conveys a sense of play, whether it be through images or form. Each piece is unique and handmade, continuing to inspire a sense of discovery.

Frank Schmohl is a local artist that creates garden sculptures from metal and stone. When Frank discovered stone and metal as mediums, he was intrigued by the endless possibilities of the combinations. Artistic freedom allows Frank to start off with an idea and ends up with something new and unique. Continually evolving, Frank’s only limitation is how far his imagination can go!

Diane is mainly a watercolour artist with a musical background. Sound and colour blend together to the pleasure of art enthusiasts. Diane was raised in Ottawa, educated her children in the west of Canada and brought back a multitude of culture and nature that merge together in a soft and peaceful manner.
Daphne is a painter and illustrator born and raised in Russell, ON. Her work depicts surreal compositions of farm animals and female characters. Most art works are multi-media on canvas, with heavy acrylic paint use. However, Daphne does experiment with other mediums such as murals, digital painting and tattoo machines to name a few. Inspired by country living, dreamscapes and bright colours; Daphne’s artistic future goals include building a clientele, securing a tattoo apprenticeship and meeting local artists.

Zoe is a largely self-taught artist specializing in painting and drawing. Her preferred mediums are acrylic, watercolour and pen and pencil drawings. With her love of the outdoors, Zoe draws much of her inspiration from the world around her. Zoe describes her art as whimsical, humorous and expressive.
David Oldford, a resident of Russell for 29 years, has had a life-long interest in working with wood and creating. David began wood-turning 10 years ago. He has been an executive member of the Ottawa Valley Woodturners Club, and has assisted with demonstrating with the Ottawa East Art Guild and at Lee Valley Tools workshops. His artwork varies, with his pieces being both utilitarian and decorative, utilizing local wood from felled trees and burls from trees in Quebec and Ontario. His work can be seen at the Galerie d’art Chelsea or by appointment at his home studio/workshop.
Erin Dunt is the photographer behind AprilRains Photography, specializing in landscape, nature, and wildlife photography. Based in Casselman, Ontario, her work captures the quiet beauty of the natural world—misty forests, serene lakeshores, and fleeting wildlife moments. With each image, she invites viewers to slow down and reconnect with nature through thoughtful composition and rich, emotive tones.
