Fine-leaved Alder Buckthorn, Buckthorn 'Asplenifolia'Rhamnus frangula 'Asplenifolia'
Height: 6' - 7'
Width: 5' - 6'
Zone: 3
A very narrow-leaved form with irregular margins whose foliage turns a respectable yellow in autumn before the leaves drop. Relatively narrow in youth this upright shrub will expand its diameter in time but always grow taller than wide. The light gray-brown wood sports a plethora of lighter colored lenticels and because of this character the bark is cherry-like and attractive in the winter landscape.
A tough, easy shrub when sited in full to half sun planted in average to even poor soils that drain well. An established plant is greatly drought tolerant.
There are few fruits occurring on this form. In some years no berries form.
