Long lasting, small, cloud-like, pinkish-purple flowers appear above the leaves in summer.  Leaves are a rich maroon colour emerging late in the spring and turning to a rich purple in the fall.

This plant will tolerate many types of soil i.e. rocky or dry, but not moist, low areas. It grows best in full sun, but will keep its colour in light shade. It can be pruned or trained into a tree form.
