This tree is borderline hardy in the Ottawa area.  Place in sheltered location.  Very possible that it will revert to multistem tree form if single stem.

Very pretty red-pink flowers bloom on bare branches and even on mature trunks. Heart-shaped green leaves turn an attractive yellow in the fall.  Flat-topped, vase shaped habit when mature.  

Cercis tolerates varied soil conditions and pHs, but not wet soils. To promote general health, prune out dead branches.
