Large tree with an upright, open crown with loose, spreading branches.  Strong central leader and nearly horizontal branching.  Compound leaves with oval to elliptical small leaflets.  Foliage emerges bright green in late Spring, turning yellow in the Fall.

With their open growing habit and smaller leaves, locust provide a pleasing filtered light.  Locust are popular street trees.
