This large conifer has a dense, pyramidal growth habit with flat sprays of lacy short dark green needles.  This Native to Ontario develops small short-stalked cones that are tan-brown in colour.

Eastern hemlock grows best in full sun and tolerates partial to full shade. Intolerant of drought and should be watered regularly during prolonged dry spells, particularly when plants are young.
